The TikTok Cleaning Hacks To Avoid

The popular social media platform TikTok is full of ‘life hacks’ that are supposed to make everyday tasks a little easier, and searches for cleaning hacks on the app have increased 400 per cent over the last year.

However, experts at Victoria Plumbing have done their research and compiled a list of bathroom cleaning tasks you should never use, as some of them could end up costing you a small fortune in repairs, according to the Express.

Don’t use bleach to clean grout

One TikTok user shared a hack of using bleach to clean grout, but in reality, it can weaken and crack the grout, as well as potentially discolouring it. This would inevitably have to be re-grouted, costing around £350 to get the professionals in.

Don’t mix ZoFlora with boiling water

A Mrs Hunch hack that went viral consisted of putting a capful of Zoflora in the sink with boiling water to create a gorgeous aroma, but experts at Zoflora warned against it, saying: ‘It could potentially negatively impact the ingredients within Zoflora and the vapour they release’.

Don’t pour bleach and dish soap down the sink drain to clean it

Similarly, as one TikTok user went viral for doing, don’t pour bleach and dish soap down the sink, as there may be chemicals in the drain that react badly when mixed, potentially releasing toxic fumes. Dish soap can contain ammonia, which does not mix safely with bleach.

Don’t mix bleach and ammonia-based products

Many people use bleach as a part of their cleaning regime, but it is vital to check the ingredients before trying to replicate any viral cleaning hacks. As mentioned above, bleach can not be mixed with any ammonia-based products, as the results can be fatal. Toxic chloramine gas can be related, and that can lead to a coma or even death.
